Open Bethlehem UK cinema release December 2014

This film is a very personal ‘Bethlehem story’ which encompasses the history of, as well as the present-day reality for, the town of Bethlehem and its citizens as they cope with life under occupation. It is a film about family, adversity, hope and, of course, Christmas.

So, if you want to see an authentic Christmas film this year, Open Bethlehem (trailer) is for you.

Autumnal greeting to all our supporters, friends and colleagues,

With the return of Occupy to London; the UK parliament’s (non-binding) vote to recognize Palestine and the thousands who marched around the world in solidarity with the people of Gaza; with hundreds of thousands of people around the world who marched for action on climate change ahead of UN Climate Summit in New York and not forgetting the Scottish referendum here at home – slowly but surely, we can take hope that tides are turning on some of the biggest issues of today and that civil society is finding its voice and its strength on many, often connected, issues.

Open Bethlehem at the Royal Geographical Society with Melvyn Bragg

Leila Sansour’s film Open Bethlehem was previewed to a sell-out audience of 720 at London’s Royal Geographical Society. It was an incredible evening – MPs and activists; academics and media all joined with many leading Palestinian figures and hundreds of members of the general public in giving the film and Leila, a standing ovation.

10 years on – the illegal Wall: Share our film

10 years since the Wall was declared illegal.

As part of our Bethlehem Unwrapped festival

we commissioned film-maker Tom Pursey to record all aspects of the event – from the construction (and subsequent public impact) of the 8m high life size replica WALL that was built in front of St James’s Piccadilly, through to all the live events that spanned our two week festival.

We are releasing our short film to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the declaration in 2004 by the International Court of Justice in The Hague (a UN body) that the barrier being built around the West Bank was illegal and should be pulled down.

In beautiful surroundings of St Luke’s Church, north London, on Wednesday 4 June at 7.30pm,
90 guests joined us for the premiere of our short documentary about the Bethlehem Unwrapped festival at St James’s Church Piccadilly last Christmas. There was also an auction of the graffitied Wall panels – a historic snapshot of when the Wall came to London.

Dear friends,

After two incredible weeks, our ‘Bethlehem Unwrapped’ festival hosted by St James’s Church Piccadilly came to end on the 5th January and the replica WALL finally came down. Between December 23rd and January 5th, thousands came to see it and many came to write on it. The vast majority wrote messages of peace and solidarity while small number wrote in favour of the real separation wall. Messages were written in many languages and by British and international visitors alike.

BETHLEHEM UNWRAPPED – A festival of Bethlehem at Christmas.

St James’s Piccadilly December 23rd 2013 – January 5th 2014

All net proceeds of the Bethlehem Unwrapped festival will be donated to Future Peacemakers Appeal, Holy Land Trust, Bethlehem.

St James’s Church in Piccadilly will be hosting the Bethlehem Unwrapped festival with a packed programme of events.

The festival welcomes Nigel Kennedy, singers Reem Kelani and the Tallis Scholars; chefs Yotam Ottolenghi & Sami Tamimi; comedians Mark Steel, Jeremy Hardy, Dave Cohen; Also, spoken word artist Rafeef Ziadah and UK slam poetry champion Harry Baker; actor Adjoa Andoh, film-maker Leila Sansour and video artists Larissa Sansour; speakers include ICAHD founder Jeff Halper. The full line-up is available on the Bethlehem Unwrapped website where tickets can be booked.

A major installation will be unveiled on the opening evening, Monday 23rd December

Tipping Point’s Programme – 24,25,26 August

“Greenbelt ranks alongside Glastonbury as my favourite festival gig of the summer.”  Mark Thomas.

TPFF looks forward to another bank holiday Greenbelt festival – and a special one as Greenbelt celebrates its 40thBirthday!

And our three day programme stays with the ‘anniversary’ theme as 50 years on, we mark Martin Luther King’s ‘I have a dream’ speech through the beautifully told story of his fellow civil rights friend and activist, the extra-ordinary Harry Belafonte; we preview TPFF supported film by Amir Amirani ‘We Are Many’ – a film marking  the 10th anniversary of the 2003 global anti-Iraq war marches; and eight years on from Make Poverty History,  we look at the tax campaign related outcomes of the recent G8 meeting as we screen the highly popular ‘We’re Not Broke’ – a film about corporates, tax avoidance and citizens.

We’ll be there Saturday, Sunday and Monday – 2pm-4.30pm at the film venue.  Each screening is followed by post film discussion with specially invited guests…

Event: Cancer Prevention – A Toxic Tour

On the 29th June 2013, From Pink to Prevention organised a toxic tour in Central London. The tour took in various sites of significance in relation to cancer prevention – or rather the lack of action on cancer prevention by government offices and other bodies.

At each venue speakers addressed various aspects in relation to the total lack of action on the part of governments and the cancer establishment on the issue of the primary prevention of cancer (ie stopping it before it starts).  They discussed their work on the issue and posted up Blue Plaques announcing ‘Cancer Prevention does not live here’ at each site to commemorate the visit.

Saturday 8th June proved to be a truly enjoyable day – two movies plus great discussions and a walk through the quiet streets of the City of London, with all its formidable architecture, bathed in glorious sunshine was a welcome bonus. We had great feedback all round – from walkers to audiences and participants too. What stood out? The quality and depth of the debate and discussion.

London, Saturday 29th June  12-2pm The Alliance for Cancer Prevention and Tipping Point Film Fund in association with The Organic Pharmacy have come together around a programme of events designed to increase the debate and public awareness on the links between breast cancer, the workplace and the wider environment.  These events have included two film screenings of PINK RIBBONS INC – one hosted by TPFF and most recently, by the Organic Pharmacy. As part of the Pink to Prevention programme of activity, on Saturday 29th June we are organising a walk with a difference… Cancer Prevention: A Toxic tour.  The locations will be centred on the Victoria and Westminster area of London and will have a particular focus on breast cancer. Film: “The Spirit of ’45“

Ken Loach’s ‘The Spirit of 45’ shows how the post-war Attlee government undertook the most extensive and radical overhaul of industry and public services, despite the economy being in dire straits. ‘The Spirit of 45’ legacy lives on in the NHS, but it and many other public services are under attack;  the divide between the rich and the rest, has become greater; and the nation’s political and financial power resides again, within a very small circle of decision-makers. So what stands in the way of reviving the ‘common good?’ And how do we pay for it?

Tax and the Civilised Society

Tax Justice Network and Tipping Point Film Fund are jointly organising a day of activity in London on Saturday 8th June designed to engage all those – public and campaigners alike – who would like to know more about why tax matters to society and therefore the need  to intensify the spotlight on tax avoidance. The day will include two film screenings with panel discussions, a ‘revelatory’ walking tour of the City of London and a great list of contributors to the day’s events.
